“That Will Do” Ranch:
We have been raising goats for about 15 years. As most we began with sale barn/flea market or ex 4-H projects for starters. We used and still do sometimes use the goats for training the horses in cutting. We progressed into the milkers and soon realized that the milking time was not fitting in our busy unpredictable schedules well. The meat market has been a good niche for us as we enjoy the kids and the does get to raise the kids on their sides. We also found that the Boer goats are economically easier to keep and have a better return in sales. Not to mention what fun they are! We got our first Boer goats in January of 1998 and have been hooked since.

Our Goat Herds:
This is rather an unusual joint effort project with 3 different ranches in our area -- the joining of 3 dear “gal friends” to help with marketing, breeding efforts and showing. Our special group makes up of Desert Berry’s Ranch (Judy Berry) and The Mayne Ranch (Debra Mayne) and “That Will Do” Ranch (Annette Johansen). In this web site you’ll see a selection of our goats. Our goals are to produce structurally sound goats, with bulk, milk, proven bloodlines and ease of care.

The Mayne Ranch:
About 24 years ago we got into raising goats for the family milk needs. Then we bought what we thought were dairy goats…but since have learned a lot. As our kids grew older we got into 4-H, which lead us to a successful 4-H leadership. Currently our 4-H goat program is the largest in Cochise County and very successful at the shows. In 2001 we expanded into the Boers by buying some does from "That Will Do" Ranch, which has been our direction ever since. We still breed a few dairy goats and stand a Saanen buck. Mayne Ranch is still building their Boer herd, as we own a feed store, where we sell organic grass fed beef and goat.

Desert Berry Ranch:
Started out as a dairy goat herd for milk and cheese project. But Judy fell in love with the big boned loveable Boers. She consistently is working to improve the herd to the best possible group on a working gal’s budget. Each are loved dearly and several of the does have been successfully shown. Judy’s able assistant is “Sage” a (15-year-old cat) who helps her with each birthing. Many kids that have been sold for successful FFA projects came from Desert Berry Ranch. One of Judy’s first Boer cross doeling was used for special visits to Nursing Homes. This was a wonderful bright moment for these folks to smell, pat and love a friendly farm animal that maybe they haven’t seen in years. Judy is honored to have recently obtained Festus’s Brother and is looking forward to his kids.

Our current herd bucks used in our “joint gal program” are “Killian 667 Sugar Daddy” and “ TR7 302 Festus’s Brother” -- both are fullblood Boers with outstanding champion bloodlines. Please have a look at our Buck section to see more information on these great boys.

As for our “girls” we have some Fullblood, American Purebreds and percentages in the herd. We have found that the hybrid crosses work harder and produce some really nice outstanding kids. We have even added some solid red does for color.

We plan to build and improve our Boer herds aand we will continue to educate folks of the Boer breed -- developing a strong market for both meat and show goats.

If you see anything that you like or have any comments please let us know. We would love to hear from you, as we are all still learning. Enjoy the visit and thanks for stopping in.
